I’ve noticed the trend for some time now: the attention spans of people are steadily shrinking.
To take one example, for many the daily devotional has been reduced to the time it takes to brush your teeth. As a result, the marketplace is crowded with one minute devotionals: One Minute Bible for Starters, One Minute Devotions for Girls, One Year Love Language Minute Devotional, One Minute Business Man’s Devotional, and so on.
For some time apologetics seemed to hold off the advance. Of course, there was the 5 Minute Apologist who promises “Maximum Truth in Minimum Time”. (See my discussions here and here.) But even 5 minutes seemed like a lifetime when compared to sixty seconds.
Then I came across The One Minute Apologist which boldly claims on the website: “We have answers.” They might have added, “And we have them in four minutes less than that 5 Minute guy.”
How am I supposed to compete with that? My average podcast is thirty or forty minutes, my articles can top 8000 words. And many in the target audience begin wandering after about 60 seconds.
So I decided, if I’m going to stay relevant I’ll have to meet shrinking attention spans.
And with that in mind, today I am announcing a new podcast series in The Tentative Apologist Podcast. I call it “The 59-Second Apologist.”
Did you get that? 1 second shorter than the competition!
Bam!
I’ll be launching The 59-Second Apologist on Monday, a unique blend of equal parts light satire and frantic information dump.
So stay tuned and tell your friends. 59 seconds folks!
Because if you can’t answer it in 59 seconds, it ain’t worth askin’.
