Announcement on My Next Book: Progressive Christians Love Jesus Too

April 6, 2022 by Randal

Last year, I read a really bad book: Alisa Childers’ Another Gospel? is an ignorant polemical screed that attacks several Christian thought leaders by name, insisting that these individuals (people like Peter Enns, Brian Zahnd, Rachel Held Evans, Richard Rohr, and so on) are not Christians at all but rather wolves out to destroy God’s church. Sadly, […]

Another Gospel? The Irony of Alisa Childers

March 5, 2022 by Randal

Alisa Childers has become very popular in the last few years promoting some scary thing she calls “progressive Christianity”. Sadly, Cameron of Capturing Christianity continues to boost Childers. If you want a capsule summary of how offensive Childers is, take a look at this Frank Turek tweet in which he promotes Childers’ “course” that explains […]

An Open Letter to Lee Strobel and Sean McDowell

July 12, 2021 by Randal

To Lee Strobel and Sean McDowell, I am writing to you concerning your endorsements of Alisa Childers’ book Another Gospel?  Mr. McDowell, you referred to the book as “a timely must-read book.” And Mr. Strobel, you actually wrote the forward to the book and you claim that Childers “fearlessly confronts the distortions and outright falsehoods […]

I just finished reading Alisa Childers’ book Another Gospel?. It is a hugely popular book that came out a year ago and has almost two thousand Amazon.com reviews. As I will note briefly below, it does have some diamonds embedded in the coal. But there is a lot of coal. Indeed, this is one of […]

Alisa Childers, “Historic Christianity,” and the Atonement

June 3, 2020 by Randal

In this video, I consider how Alisa Childers adopts an idiosyncratic definition of “historic Christianity” that reduces the essentials to Paul’s creed in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7. Next, I point out how Childers attacks progressive Christians by claiming without evidence that “most” progressive Christians reject the core doctrine of substitutionary atonement.

Can a pastor have doubts?

May 25, 2020 by Randal

In this video, I offer a critical response to Alisa Childers and Cameron Bertuzzi of Capturing Christianity as they discuss Ms. Childers’ former pastor who once described himself as agnostic. The video raises an important question: “Can a pastor have doubts?” The answer, I think, is that at times pastors will likely have doubts. The […]
