In Romans 8:22 Paul famously describes our broken creation as groaning:
“We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”

When I heard the melancholy wail of that beaver I realized I had been given just the barest hint of the groaning of creation. Creation is broken, creation suffers, and creation needs redemption no less than the human agents within it.
