I tend to treat blogging like Olympic sprinting. Lots of activity for short bursts followed by long periods of rest. Except that it is generally reversed: lots of activity for long bursts followed by short periods of rest. We’re presently in one of those short periods of rest and here’s why:
Reason 1: On Wednesday I got a contract offer for a book proposal on heaven. We haven’t accepted the offer (though it is a solid offer from a great publisher) because a second publisher is very interested in putting in an offer of their own. (My agent is mercifully handling the details.) It would be great to have a couple offers to choose from but as a result I will probably not have a written contract for another six weeks or so. Still, the initial offer at least gives me a high degree of certainty that this book will be published eventually (probably in the fall of 2013) and so I have returned to the manuscript in the last few days and restarted work on it. My hope is to have the book done by the end of June.
Reason 2: Yesterday I realized that I am still within the deadline to submit a proposal for the Evangelical Theological Society’s annual conference in the fall. I am going to try to put a proposal together today (deadline tomorrow) on penal substitution.
Reason 3: I just need a blogging break for a few days.
So after a few days of rest I should be putting my Nike runners on again and ready for some more marathon sprints.
