On Twitter

October 15, 2011 by Randal

I just got on Twitter. I haven’t decided what, if anything, I will do with it. Twitter suggested I follow the Dalai Lama but he already has 10 million followers (or 20 million) and he just tweets about loving everybody. Boring. But apparently not as boring as most tweets. According to the ever-helpful Wikipedia, 40% of the 200 million tweets every day is classified as “pointless babble”. Gosh, I thought we had enough of that before twitter came along. And I am loathe to contribute to it.

I am also reluctant to conform to any mode of expression that limits me to 140 characters. I’m inclined to save those desperate measures for when I’m locked unjustly in a Siberian prison and have no other means to contact my attorney than through 140 agonized characters longing for contact with the outside world.

All that is to say, whether I shall make use of Twitter remains to be seen. For the moment I’m sticking with my comfortable old blog.
