Let’s say I receive a letter from Alby. I want to write back to Alby. Is it permissible to save money on a stamp by putting my letter into his envelope and writing “return to sender” beside the return address? After all, I’m not lying am I? I didn’t write moved, which would indeed be a lie. On the contrary I gave the postal service clear directions as to what I really want them to do: return the envelope to Alby.
What is more, I would be saving the cost and environmental impact of using a new envelope.
Plus, if I did that a couple times a day I’d have enough money to sponsor another World Vision child.
What do you think?
[P.S. For all you wags who are about to say “just email him!” you should know that if Alby actually existed he would be a monk on Mt. Athos where they have no email and only special people get to use the telephone. So what am I supposed to do when I receive sixty letters a month from monks at Mt. Athos? Use sixy of my own stamps and envelopes?]
