The most outrageous thing I’ve heard all day

March 5, 2011 by Randal

Atheist Missionary: “The best experts are those with no vested interest in the outcome (or preconceived notion of the outcome) and just go where the evidence leads them.”

Really?

Raul Hilberg was a Jewish historian. His magnum opus is the three volume, 1200 page work The Destruction of the European Jews. His family was evicted by gun point from their Vienna home in 1938. On multiple levels he had a deeply invested interest in writing an account of the Holocaust. What is more, when he began his research in the 1950s he had a preconceived notion of what he’d find: the bloody Nazis slaughtered more than six million Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, mental and physical ‘undesirables’ and more.

So we are to consider The Destruction of the European Jews an inferior work of suspect motivation because Hilberg was Jewish and had expectations of what he’d find which antedated the enquiry?
