What if John Loftus converts me to atheism?

December 24, 2010 by Randal

I didn’t ask the question. Shawn did: “What if John ‘converts’ you?” he asks.

Great question! It is an especially good question because it allows me to talk a bit about my new book You’re not as crazy as I think. Chapter six is called “This conversation could change your life” and it discusses the difference between conversations in which people are set in their opinions with conversations where people are open to learning from the other. The chapter closes with the sobering example of a Christian missionary who travelled to a far off country to convert some natives and was converted by them to … atheism. So in any honest and open conversation there needs to be the possiblity of persuasion/conversion, including in the writing (and reading) of a book like God or Godless (or Crazy, or The Christian Delusion, or the Bible, or…).
