E. was discovered by his landlord after he had been lying on his side for two weeks in his apartment in front of a scale model that E. had constructed of Manhattan. The landlord gained entry to the apartment after neighbors complained of a sewage smell. It turned out that E. had been defecating in a bucket and using the feces to cook bread, actions which he reported God had directed him to do.
Once admitted to Bellevue, E. reported that he is a prophet and that God speaks to him. E. explained that God appeared to him in a vision driving a Trans-Am like the one Burt Reynolds drove in “Smokey and the Bandit.” E. described it as having screaming chicken on the hood and with “wheel within a wheel” Crager mags.
E. interacts well with other patients but shows no sign of surrendering his delusions. In fact, E. is presently writing down his religious experiences.
