Hey everybody, you know I’d be blogging faithfully if I hadn’t been so incredibly busy. Completing the move into our new house and completing grading for my eager students was enough. But add into that the fact that I received the galley proofs from my publisher for my new book You’re not as Crazy as I think which demanded a careful read through. And to top it all off, I have been working feverishly on completing a book proposal to be coauthored with my nemesis…
No, not quite that dramatic. I don’t even know if the devil formally authors books. (Though I can think of a few for which he has been a ghost writer.) Actually I was thinking of John W. Loftus. I contacted him last June about coauthoring a book, a collection of twenty debates, and he was right into it. He just announced it on his blog today so I figured I’d make an announcement as well.
So here’s the picture. The book is tentatively titled God or Godless? One Atheist, One Christian, and twenty irreverent, interesting, and somewhat informative debates. Each of us has proposed ten topics of debate in which we will argue the affirmative, leaving the opponent scrambling to mount a negation. Each of the debates will be only about 2000 words, so the intent is for short, punchy, engaging, informative, somewhat humorous and thought-provoking chapters.
I’m finding this to be a delicate balancing act, for while I want to write effective chapters, I don’t want them to be so effective that John converts back to Christianity too quickly. (He is a former minister turned atheist.) Basically I’ve got to hit that sweet spot so that he converts at some point following our book tour.
Anyway, to this point we’ve written six of the twenty debates and I’m sending the proposal off to my agent this week. Hopefully in about a year you’ll see God or Godless? hitting the shelves.
And the final good news. Now I have a bit more time finally to begin my review of Signature in the Cell.
