Flying Spaghetti Monsters and Martha Stewart

December 19, 2010 by Randal

Two special investigators of corporate crime — Randal and Shawn — were called out to investigate Martha Stewart’s dumping of $230,000 of ImClone stock on December 27, one day before an announcement of the FDA’s refusal to approve ImClone’s new drug Erbitux.

“It looks like insider trading to me.” Special Agent Randal observed. “It has all the hallmarks of Stewart acting on special intelligence.”

However, Special Agent Shawn, a rather grumpy fellow, snapped back: “Oh yeah, maybe the flying spaghetti monster told her to sell her stock.”

Fortunately the special investigations committee did not heed Special Agent Shawn’s incredulity toward the invocation of intelligent agents as causal explanations and so the investigation proceeded apace. Charges of insider trading were laid against Stewart. Special Agent Randal went to the New Year’s Eve staff party. Andd Special Agent Shawn grumbled: “Bah, humbug.”
