In the last few days I’ve had a few people inquire as to the status of the Tentative Apologist. Yes, I’ve been remiss in keeping the blog crackling along, this is true. But I’ve hardly been resting on my laurels. On the contrary, it’s been a couple weeks of fever pitch activity. Here’s a quick run down.
First, the new semester stuff. Lots-o-fun there with new courses, preps, registrations, meetings and the like. But this is not of particular interest to this readership. More interesting perhaps are a few other factors…
First, I finally finished my manuscript for my apologetics book tentatively titled From Angels to Zeus: Apologetics in one long conversation. It will probably be coming out next fall. In it I hang out with you (i.e. the Reader) and an atheist/agnostic guy at a bohemian coffee shop where we talk about the meaning of life for, like, eight hours. So it was good to finally wrap that project up. But the really cool thing (“really cool” being a relative term of course) is that this book grew out of the discussions here at the Tentative Apologist. I am indebted to almost everybody who posts (note the “almost everybody”; I’m sure the exceptions have a sense of who they are, and they wear that badge with pride no doubt) for pushing the conversation forward and giving me a lot of ideas for the material that became this book.
Next, I’ve also been writing a paper for a panel discussion at the SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) and EPS (Evangelical Philosophical Society) meeting this November in Atlanta. I’m in a panel discussion with some real scholars like Paul Copan. (Why they let me on the panel I don’t know exactly. But my wife has sternly informed me that I’ll need a haircut some time between now and November, and she means it.) That should be really interesting because the topic is “Is Yahweh a moral monster?” I have my own views on that whole topic so it should be an interesting exchange.
Finally, I’m excited to say that I have a friend developing a new website for me. The one I have at present is, er, rather el cheapo. The internet equivalent of a Swansons frozen dinner perhaps. Or a disposable camera. So hopefully in a couple weeks I’ll have a cool new site up and running (again, cool being a relative term).
So anyway, that’s what happened to ole’ whatshisname.
Footnote: I’m going to get back to reviewing Christian Delusion asap.
