The campfire post

In light of all the supportive touchy feely posts I received after being told to shut up I have decided to have a campfire post. Nothin’ formal. Just come as you are, huddle around your monitor, warm your hands by the fire, play some Cat Stevens, or perhaps Dave Mason, or Art Garfunkel (all of these songs are guaranteed to produce pacifistic behavior). And contemplate the unstoppable power of being nice to others even when they’re mean to you.

I was with you until the folk music started playing. ;-)

    • randal

Yeah, well I coulda linked you to this instead.

Now don’t you regret that you complained?

      • http://badchristian.org Sean R Reid

        Yes. I do regret it.

        You’re a moral monster.

    Let’s all sing Kumbaya.

I’ll warm my hands, pass around some beers and share this quote:

We might enhance the respect others accord us if we are kind, considerate, peace-loving, courageous, truthful, loyal to friends, affectionate to our families, aspirants to knowledge, lovers of art and nature, seekers after the good of humankind, and the like; or we might forfeit that respect by being unkind, ungenerous, greedy, selfish, wilfully stupid or ignorant, small-minded, narrowly moralistic, superstitious, violent, and the like. Neither set of characteristics has any essential connection with the presence or absence of any specific belief systems, given that there are nice and nasty Christians, nicer and nasty Muslims, nice and nasty atheists. Amen!

Though I must say that virtual beer doesn’t quite taste the same…

Ok everyone write down your worst sin then throw it in the fire. Yay it’s gone!

Brings tears to my eyes remembering the Pentecostal Bible camps of my youth…

Please tell me you’re joking. That kind of thing didn’t actually happen, right? I mean, it’s just a myth perpetuated in Atheist circles by former Christians with an axe to grind.

        Right?

        Right??

        • randal

My singed eyebrows never quite grew back…

Have fun, but… are you ever coming back to our prior discussion, though?

    • randal

Yeah sure, just as soon as I get this melted marshmallow off my fingers.
